What I’m Doing Now

I’m living in Bangalore, India and working at Google.

My daughter is almost two years old now. I spend a lot of time playing with her and listening to her imaginative stories.

At work, I moved from the Google Search team to the Google Core Data team, and now I work on GoogleSQL AKA ZetaSQL. I’ve been interested in programming languages design and implementation for a long time, and this new job is very enthralling to me.

Last summer I did a Couch-to-10k challenge, and after that I somehow managed to routinely keep running. I ran over 500km since then, and I’m very proud of it. I hope to run over 600km in 2024.

I still haven’t finished the Essentials of Compilation book. I got back to working through it after a long break, but soon ran into a bug in the GC code, which stalled my progress. So I decided to pick another compiler book: Lisp in Small Pieces, and I’ve reading it slowly. It’s amazing that I’m able to understand the book fairly easily now, I couldn’t have done the same couple of years earlier. All the studying is actually paying off.

I also taught myself C++ after years of intentionally staying away it, and did the Make-A-Lisp challenge in it. It was a fun way to practice C++ and learn more about Lisp interpreters.

I plan to continue teaching myself more about programming languages theory and implementation.

I presented the talk Functional Programming Patterns at IN/Clojure 2024. This was my first conference after pandemic. It was great to meet people. I ran into some old friends as well.

This is a “now page” which itemizes the work and other priorities that I’m concentrating on right now.
